Sow It, Grow It, Eat It

Flower in hands

Friday 1st March 2013, 9:45am - 2:30pm, Stockbridge Technology Centre, Cawood, Selby, YO8 3TZ

Food production is a fantastic way for students to learn a variety of curriculum subjects in a fun and inspiring way. The topic can be easily adapted to suit your school environment and students – ranging from developing a school garden to growing pot plants and fruit tasting. Join us at Stockbridge Technology Centre to gain ideas on how to implement a successful ‘growing your own’ project and experience practical activities to help teach students about sustainability, carbon footprints and the environment.

Outcomes of the day:

-          Learn more about STC including a tour of the site

-          Discover how to set up your own STEM/Enterprise projects in school

-          Experience practical activities to use with students including potato planting, cheese tasting and salad tasting

-          Have the opportunity to be involved in STC’s various school projects

Stockbridge Technology Centre is a research centre based on a farm and has 3 acres of glasshouses used for a range of commercial activities. STC runs a range of successful projects for primary schools in the area. The main aim of these projects is to help reconnect children with food production. This is done mainly through practical activities and learning about food production, farming, habitats and conservation.
